Perched majestically at the highest point of Sydney’s historic Rocks district, the Shangri-La Sydney Hotel stands as a beacon of luxury and Asian hospitality in Australia’s most iconic harbor city. When our doors first opened in 1992 as the ANA Hotel Sydney, our distinctive architectural presence was already making a statement on the Sydney skyline. The building was thoughtfully designed to harmonize with its complex existing environment, navigating the intricate building controls that protected the character of The Rocks while creating something truly spectacular.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The architect’s original concept was that of a lighthouse\u2014a symbolic guide welcoming travelers to Sydney’s shores\u2014sitting proudly at the head of the historic Rocks precinct. The Shangri-La name itself draws inspiration from the fictional paradise described in James Hilton’s 1933 novel “Lost Horizon”\u2014a heavenly place of peace and prosperity.
